JAYEEBHAVA Movie Review
Film: Jayeebhava
Rating: 2.75/5
Banner: N T R Arts
Cast: Nandamuri Kalyanram, Hansika, Mukesh Rishi, Jayaprakash Reddy, Ashish Vidyarthi, Chalapathi Rao, Ali, Brahmanandam, Venu Madhav, Raghu Babu, Hema, Banerjee etc
Music: S Thaman
Fights: Vijay
Editing: Gowtham Raju
Dialogues, story: B V S N Ravi
Cinematography: Dasaradhi Sivendra
Director: Naren Kondapati
Producer: Nandamuri Kalyanram
Release date: 23rd Oct 2009
Nandamuri Kalyanram has come up with his third venture from his home banner and the expectations were high since the pre release talk was quite positive. Whether it matches to the reality or not, let us see.
Story: Bhavani (Mukesh Rishi) and Narasimha (Jayaprakash) are best friends turned foes due to misunderstandings caused by Yadu (Ashish). This is told to Ram (Kalyan), son of Bhavani and he decides to play game with Yadu. He is successful in that but in due course falls in love with Anjali (Hansika). However, a sequence of events takes place and Ram realizes that Anjali is the daughter of Narasimha. Now, he has to ensure that both sworn enemies come together to accept for his marriage with Anjali. Whether he is successful or not forms the rest of thestory.
Performances: Kalyanram He has given a standard performance and there is nothing new or variety that he offered. Given the comedy quotient, he should have been more charging and expressive. His naturally handsome looks are nice. Costumes are also good.
Hansika motwani She has turned out to be a real gorgeous doll after her last movie ‘Kantri’. She looks sexy and wears some really attractive outfits and this would provide a visual delight. Performance is as usual but her beauty overshadows most of her drawbacks.
Mukesh Rishi, Jayaprakash Reddy- both senior actors came up with a standard performance but the makers could have looked at extracting more fromMukesh. Jayaprakash Reddy gives the required dose of humor, performance and the bad looks. Both of them are versatile.
Brahmanandam, Ali, Raghu Babu- the trio has come up with decent performances but the energy could have been better in the line. Raghu Babu in particular is good and he does these roles very well.
Highlights Hansika
Disappointments Weak romance trackInconsistency in climax
Analysis: The film relies mostly on the technical aspects and the focus has been on the style and presentation than the content and punch in thestory. While the first half is just okay, the real story picks up in second half and there are traces of movies like ‘Dhee’ ‘Ready’ etc and protagonist using brain than brawn has become the in thing now. The mass audience would relish the presence of Hansika, songs and the comedy part but overall, there is no rhythm and there are fluctuations in the depiction of emotions. The film is good in parts but on a whole there should be something more. The movie is on the lines of ‘Ready’ but could have handled with more power in dialogues and screenplay.
Bottom line: Just okay, could have been better

Fights: Ram-LaxmanArt: ChinnaEditing: MR VarmaCamera: Sree RamChoreography: Dinesh, SobhaPRO: BA Raju
Lyrics: Bhaskarabhatla
Music: Raghu KuncheStory and Dialogue: Puri JagannathScreenplay,
Direction: Jaya Varma
Released On: 23rd Oct 2009
The much publicized film that tuned most popular with the super hit song ‘Ravanamma’ has released today. Let us see how it faired well.
Story:Sai (Sai Ram) is a motor mechanic. His father (Chandramohan) works as a clerk in a construction company owned by a rich real estate lord Surya Prakash (Sayaji Shinde). Surya Prakash’s daughter Aishwarya (Bindu Madhavi) is an arrogant girl. Consequences make Sai and Aishwarya love together. How Surya Prakash reacts to that forms the main story. He gives Sai an offer that he is ready to give his daughter to him if he can earn at least half of his property. But Sai says that if financial status is the barrier for marriage, he would bring down Surya Prakash to his standard. Things move accordingly in second half and finally how Sai gets success is the climax.
Performances:Sai Ram:He groomed to some extent but stills needs to be. His hair style and costumes are in tune with the character he played but his dialogue delivery is pitiful. He is not appealing for any set of audiences with that. He needs to get trained in diction part.
Bindu Madhavi:She looked spicy and perfectly gelled well in arrogant role. Director proved successful in giving a different look for her and broken the jinx of family look that she acquired with ‘Avakai Biryani’.
Raksha is ok as rich mother of heroine and Sayaji also grooved well in his part. Chandramohan and Kovai Sarala did their part as parents of poor hero.
Ali and Venu Madhav could bring only minimum laughs with their Magadheera spoof, although there is better scope.
Music is good and trendy. Dialogues are good, screenplay is normal and direction is average.
Highlights:MusicLyrics in ‘Ravanamma..’Dialogues to some extent
Disappointments:Hero’s diction
Analysis:The movie is a reverse of Chiranjeevi’s ‘Challenge’. The protagonist in this denies the offer given by his rich lover’s father to become rich and marry his daughter. But in turn he gives a bumper challenge that he would bring that rich man to his level (poor) to marry his lover as financial status is the only barrier for their marriage.
The scope to make it a wonderful entertainer is very big. But this movie is limited only to a few laughs. The entertainment graph has been up and down since the beginning. A few scenes like when heroine beating the hero with stick received good response. The credit goes to dialogues there.
The ‘Magadheera’ spoof of Ali and Venu Madhav started with promising entertainment but that ended up very weak. There are no thrills and chills and everything goes as predicted. On a whole, the exercise is done but that’s not sufficient for this type of film.
The take off is good, first half ends up with a powerful interval bang. The second half goes as expected and finally it ends up as predicted. The film could have raised interest levels with more humor in it. To sum up, it ended up as a mundane treat.
Bottom Line: Watch it if you wish to kill time

Mahatma Srikanth,Krishna Vamsi Telugu Movie Review

Film: Mahatma Review
Banner: Golden Lion Films
Rating: 3.5/5
Cast: Srikanth, Bhavana, Jayaparakash Reddy, Jyothy, Uttej, Jagan, Brahmanandam, Paruchuri Venkateshwara Rao etc
Music: Vijay AnthonyLyrics: Seetarama Sastry, Suddala Ashok Teja and Lakshmi Bhupal
Dialogues: Paruchuri BrothersCinematography: Sarath
Director: Krishna Vamsi
Producer: C R Manohar
Released On: 9th October 2009
The movie ‘Mahatma’ has been in news from quite some time by the virtue of publicity and controversies with songs. The expectations have been huge on the movie and let us see how it gelled with the anticipations.
Story:Dasanna (Srikanth) is a rugged youngster who lives in a ‘basthi area’ and his life style includes only fights, daily intake of alcohol and non-veg. His livelihood depends on rowdism. In the process he happens to encounter an advocate Krishnaveni (Bhavana) who keeps on bailing him out whenever he gets into police case.
On the other hand a political rivalry runs between ruling party leaders Dattanna (Jayaprakash Reddy) and Kalarani (Jyothy). In the flow of events, Dasanna happens to become a tool between Datthanna and Kalarani.
But Gandhism attracts Dasanna all of a sudden. He stops alcohol, non vegetarianism and also fights. He starts the process of accepting mistake. How that affected him? How that helped his area? That forms rest of the story.
Performances:Srikanth:He did his best with utmost care. His expressions worked really well for every scene. He also tried to show some expertise in dances as well although choreography is pretty poor. The shades of his portrayal in Shankaradada Zindabad are seen on some scenes.
Bhavana:She is the biggest minus for the movie and there is nothing more speak about.
Jagan:Although a trivial role, he deserves a paragraph here. He appears in various get ups- NTR, Tanguturi Prakasam. Pingala Vekayya, Alluri Seeta Rama Raju, Potti Sree Ramulu and Gandhiji. The song ‘Kontha mandi inti peru…’ was shot on him.
Brahmanandam appears in guest comedy and that is just ok. Jayaprakash Reddy aptly grooved in the role of Datthanna. Jyothy is ok as Kalarani. Uttej and Paruchuri Venkateshwara Rao have played as side kicks to protagonist.
Charmee spilled glamour in an item song and Navneeth Kaur also made her hot presence on screen although appeared for a few seconds.
Editing has suffered some problems (Gandhi’s statue looks shabby for some time and clean and neat for other time in the same scene). Cinematography is good. Story is fine and screenplay could have been better. On a whole it’s a laudable attempt by director but could have carried the subject with more intensity.
Highlights:Title song ‘Talayetti jeevinchu..’Song on Gandhiji ‘Kontha mandi inti peru kaadura Gandhi..’
Disappointments:HeroineDialogues (except ‘kattana..kottana’ and ‘amma ..neeyamma’)No proper comedy
Analysis:The take-off of the movie is pretty hysterical with the title song ‘Talayetti jeevinchu Tammudaa..’ But the actual story wouldn’t start till the interval bang. The beginning of second half promises bigger things but that goes with various ups and downs. First 45 minutes of themovie goes in run of the mill style and that could have been confined to 20 minutes jumped into actual story.
The song ‘Indiramma inti peru kaadura Gandhi’ that raised controversy was changed to ‘Konthamandi inti peru kaadura Gandhi’. But Censor didn’t bother to cut down the word ‘f...k off’ used by artiste Jyothy for Kalarani character in first half.
Director seems to have ignored masses and that is evident through his selection of heroine and the get up given to her. Any other heroine would have aptly fitted in the requirement.
On a whole, the spirit of non violence, truth, accepting the mistake and perseverance are conveyed in this attempt through some scenes. But more homework should have done to make it a better product since the title is ‘Mahatma’!!!
Bottom Line: Watch it at least to know the value of Gandhiji once again.

Hindi Film Blue Movie Review

Movie Review :Blue Hindi Movie Review
Director:Anthony D'Souza
Cast:Sanjay Dutt, Akshay Kumar, Lara Dutta, Rahul Dev, Zayed Khan, Katrina Kaif

Blue, the most awaited movie of the year - with its canvas as huge as the ocean - comes alive on screen this Friday. Like every biggie, this one also comes with the baggage of monumental expectations. With tremendous hype surrounding it, the inescapable question that crosses your mind is, will Blue live up to those colossal expectations?
Let me keep it short - you haven't watched anything like this on the Hindi screen before. Never ever!
It requires courage, willpower, fortitude, vision and, of course, the financial backing to accomplish a project of this magnitude. And debutante director Anthony D'Souza puts his skills and the financial resources to best use. Blue is not merely a stunning looking film, it's also a well-structured film. Most importantly, it's a solid entertainer that packs in so much in those 1.58 hours.
Blue is set in the sun-soaked white sand beaches of Bahamas. Sagar [Sanjay Dutt] is a simpleton, while his friend Aarav [Akshay Kumar] is a rich, ambitious businessman.
Sagar's brother Sameer aka Sam [Zayed Khan] has inadvertently managed to rankle the mafia in Bangkok [Rahul Dev]. He flees Bangkok and arrives in Bahamas. But the dangerous men reach Bahamas, too. Sagar is the sole person who can bail him out from this crisis, but to save his brother, Sagar has to wrestle with the ghost of his dead father.
Sanjay Dutt carries his part well, although he looks very well-fed in some scenes. Akshay Kumar steals the show with a sterling performance. This would easily classify amongst his best works. Zayed Khan is highly competent. This, despite the fact that he's sharing the screen space with two hugely experienced actors.
Lara Dutta has never looked so good before. Though the story revolves around the guys, you can't overlook Lara's small but significant contribution to the film. Katrina Kaif [special appearance] looks gorgeous and performs exceedingly well. The feminine charm [at the start specifically] would send the youth into a frenzy. Rahul Dev is first-rate. Kabir Bedi is hardly there.
On the whole, Blue has style as well as substance. The film has everything going in its favour, right from its incredible star cast to the superb action scenes to the hitherto unseen marine life to the tremendous hype and hoopla. At the box-office, Blue will strike like a hurricane in the festive week. It should set new benchmarks in days to come.
Final word? Go, grab a ticket, if you haven't booked one yet. This under-sea treasure hunt is a kickass film. A must-see for all those who love adventure flicks.

Bendu Appa Rao RMP Telugu Movie Review

Bendu Appa Rao RMP Telugu Movie Review:
Film: Bendu Appa Rao RMP
Rating: 3.25/5
Cast: Allari Naresh, Kamna Jetmalani, Meghana, Suman Shetty, Ahuti Prasad, Ali, LB Sri Ram, Srinivas Reddy, Uttej, Deekshitulu etcDialogues: Veligonda SrinivasStory: PV Giri
Direction: EVV Satyanarayana
Producer: Dr D Rama Naidu
Released On: 16th Oct 2009
EVV Satyanaranaya’s style has got its unique image in Tollywood. ‘Bendu Apparao’ released today on the banner of Suresh Productions; and let us see how far EVV touched his mark.
Story:Bendu Appa Rao (Allari Naresh) is an RMP doctor in a village. He has a sister who gets troubled by her greedy husband (Krishna Bhagawan). Appa Rao earns money from the villagers by doing various mischief activities, making them his patients for every small reason. He earns money only to quench the greed of his brother in law. On the other hand, Padmapriya (Kamna), the daughter of the rich man in the village Raju (Ahuti Prasad) falls in love with Appa Rao.
The story runs on this track but all of a sudden Appa Rao becomes responsible for a secret sum of Rs 15 lakh. Story takes turn there. A school teacher comes into his life.
What is that Rs 15 lakh? How Appa Rao become responsible? Who is that teacher? All that has to be watched on screen.
Performances:Allari Naresh:He is at his best as usual. The entire story runs on his shoulders and he carried that efficiently. Once again he proved that he is the best fit as comedy hero in Tollywood after Rajendra Prasad and Naresh.
Kamna:She is ok and suited well for the character.
Meghana:She has a small role as school teacher but oozed the required glamour in a song.
Ahuti Prasad:He deserves right mention in the film as he spilled several laughs with his typical East Godavari slang
Other artistes Jith Mohan Mitra, LB Sri Ram, Suman Shetty, Uttej, Srinivas Reddy, Kondavalasa, Chalapathi Rao, Telangana Shakuntala, Sreepada Hanuma Sastry etc have justified to their characters.
The backbone of the movie is its dialogue part. Veligonda Sreenivas has penned subtle and humorous dialogues through out the movie. Every 5 minutes in the movie spills a laugh. Although the story is a routine one, the dialogue part made it appealing for contemporary audience.
Highlights:Allari NareshAhuti PrasadDialogues
Disappointments:Allari Naresh’s snake dance is over dosed
Analysis:It’s a nonstop humor treat after a long time. Audiences of all the centers may patronize this film and there will be more edge in B, C centers. The entire movie is filled with East Godavari flavor where almost all top comedians except Brahmanandam, MS Narayana and Sunil are present on screen.
First half of the movie goes with non stop humor while second half has enough sentiment. But in both halves, the comedy part is rightly gelled.
If publicity supports the movie, it may celebrate festival at Box Office.
Bottom Line: Good treat.

What's Your Raashee? Movie Review

Banner: UTV Motion Pictures, Ashutosh Gowariker Productions
Cast: Harman Baweja, Priyanka Chopra, Anjan Srivastava, Visshwa Badola, Rajesh Vivek, Dilip Joshi, Daya Shanker Pandey, Honey Chhaya
Direction: Ashutosh Gowarikar
Production: Ashutosh Gowarikar, Ronnie Screwvala, Sunita Gowariker
Music: Sohail Sen

Turning words into pictures – the mantra hasn’t been so favorable for our own B-town auteurs. Of course, glimpse through the graph of films adapted from novels, most of them had witnessed pathetic results at box office.

If it was Chetan Bhagat’s ‘One Night at Call centre’, this year, the ‘bhakra’ award goes to Madhu Rye’s ‘Kimball Ravenswood’. Trust us! The most renowned filmmaker stumbles down from making a good adaptation. Watching a drama for 3.5hrs sans riveting moments is something throwing you for misadventures. And precisely, making your way for ‘What’s your Raashee?’ will yield similar results.

Naturally, Ashutosh could’ve attempted for a small screen adaptation, which could’ve been split into 12 different episodes. To be precise, it would have let the producers’ pockets filled with profits on numerous ad commercials.

Let’s put it in simple terms, ‘What’s your Raashee?’ doesn’t carry any engrossing moments for the next 3 ½ hrs and if you’re planning to save yourselves out of impatience, we have an option. Pull yourselves out of theatres in intermission.

The story centers on Yogesh Patel (Harman Baweja), a young man who in his heart has always wanted a love marriage. Till suddenly he is told that he must find his dream girl within ten days to save his family from utter ruin.

Finding the dream girl is tough enough. Finding her in a hurry is even tougher.

His solution is simple; he will meet one girl from each Raashee – sun sign, as he feels that is the best way to make sure he finds a suitable wife, while also giving himself twelve chances to fall in love. Two meetings per day gives him six days to meet them, three days to make a final decision and he can get married on the tenth day, or so he thinks.

Fine! The protagonist’s plans are so perfect and indeed Madhu Rye, who penned a gripping tale. What makes the film so irksome is the fact that Ashu fails to blend the raw drama with interesting ingredients. Perhaps, Harman Baweja shows up with a matured performance. Priyanka Chopra is wordlessly stupendous on her part. Be it her enactment of jeweler’s daughter or the businesswoman, she’s overblown on all panoramas. But, none of these 12 characterizations overshadows her previous show in ‘Kaminey’. Well, nothing impressive about rest of star-casts as they’ve patently performed as per directions.

Technically, the film is embellished with some laudable music and cinematography. Couple of songs is feet-tapping while choreography is top-notching.

On the final note, ‘What’s your Raashee?’ fails to gratify in more parts and doesn’t exceed our expectations. Perhaps, we would like to thank the yesteryear astrologers who limited themselves with establishment of ’12 Star Signs’ and not more than it. Or else, Ashu would’ve dragged us yet more with duration of 4.5hrs on more Raashees.

Verdict: Watch it at your own risk.

Acid Factory – Review

Film: “Acid Factory”
Cast: Irrfan Khan, Manoj Bajpai, Fardeen Khan, Dino Morea, Aftab Shivdasani, Danny Denzongpa, Dia Mirza
Director: Suparn Varma
Rating: 15star Acid Factory Review

By the time the chemically-zonked characters trapped in a padlocked factory realise who they are and what they are up to, we couldn’t care less about the outcome of their violently vivacious life. Our disdainful indifference for the characters of “Acid Factory” comes from the enforced cool quotient. Everyone behaves he was born in a posh retreat and has spent the majority of their lives driving in swanky Porsches.

But the actors lack the charisma to carry off the posh characters with elan.

These, however, aren’t the only reasons why we give up on these lost souls. Mainly, the game is up because the film turns out to be an almost frame-by-frame copy of a Colombian film, Simon Brand’s “Unknown”.

Like many of the films produced by Sanjay Gupta, “Acid Factory” seeks direct inspiration from a foreign source and adds a sheen of extra-ruggedness to the original proceedings. After a point, it doesn’t matter what the original reference point is. These are people who’ve lost their bearings.

But director Suparn Varma remains pretty much in control, specially when the chase sequences take over. That’s when the narrative really lets its hair down. The skidding wheels, exploding cars and crashing dreams of characters, who are as amoral as they are adventurous, signify the complete takeover of the film’s universe by forces that rule the realm of video games.

Long before they became fashionable, Sanjay Gupta has been making video games on celluloid. The background music by Amar Mohile totally supports the vibrant rugged and macho visuals.

Women are objects of classy but lustful adoration in Gupta’s scheme of things. Dia Mirza makes her athletic entry mid-way through the film when the characters locked up in an acid factory have just begun to figure out their raison d’etre. By then we’ve begun to lose our bearing vis--vis the askew plot.

To their credit the actors seem to exude an energy beyond that provided by the adrenaline-motivated visuals. Each characters comes across as an individual. Manoj Bajpayee is wacky, Aftab Shivdasani is restrained. Dino Morea is wry and Fardeen tries hard to come to terms with his amnesiac character.

Danny Denzongpa and Irrfan Khan remain peripheral, never quite entering the domain of the damned, remaining above the pyrotechnics even while indulging in them.

Technical qualities of “Acid Factory” deserve a special mention. Sahil Kapoor’s camera captures the bends of Cape Town effectively.

“Acid Factory” is overall a stylish action film.

Main Aurr Mrs. Khanna – Preview

New Delhi, No action and no violence. Debutant director Prem Soni, who conceptualised his 16-year-old dream with “Main Aurr Mrs. Khanna”, offers a story about coming to terms with one’s conflicting feelings with the Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor starrer which is releasing Friday.

The romantic drama also stars Sohail Khan, Yash Tonk and features Preity Zinta in an item number.

Raina (Kareena), Samir (Salman) and Akash (Sohail) are three people whose lives get entwined at an international airport. They find themselves at the crossroads of life where each has to make a decision that will change their lives forever.

While Samir has to decide whether he wants to stay in the same city that gave him everything and then took away more; Raina has to decide whether her love and loyalty for her husband, who left her to pursue success is more justified than her faith and trust in her new found friend.

Akash on the other hand has to find out what he feels for a married woman is lust or true love and is he justified in trying to win her even at the cost of her marriage.

Set against the hustle and bustle of an international airport, “Main Aurr Mrs. Khanna” is about coming to terms with one’s conflicting feelings as well as personal and psychological problems and love.

Considering the plot of the film, the general perception has been that it is about extramarital affairs. Soni, however, dismissed the presumptions.

“The film doesn’t have an extramarital relationship or cheating angle. It just tells the story from the point of view of an outsider. Sohail is someone who looks at Mrs. Khanna and sees the kind of issues that she is facing,” Soni had told IANS.

“In fact, whether it is Sohail or even Salman for that matter, both of them have an element of ‘main’ in them. They see Mrs. Khanna in different ways and this is what forms the crux of the film,” he added.

Courtesy a no holds barred promotion for Salman’s last hit “Wanted”, the promotions for “Main Aurr…” took a backseat and there hasn’t been much buzz about it either in the industry or among audiences, according to insiders.

It is releasing on the same day as “Blue” and “All The Best – Fun Begins” are hitting but Soni is unperturbed by the competition.

“I have no apprehensions. It takes a lot of energy for every filmmaker to make a movie. So there are no hard feelings for anyone. May the best win because they are all of different genres and have their own set of audiences,” he said.

The film also offers a tribute to composer legend R.D. Burman as one of his songs “Bade achche lagte hain yeh dharti, yeh nadiya, yeh raina aur tum” from “Balika Badhu” is used in the background.

“It’s a song that we all chose unanimously. It comes on when my character meets Kareena. When we meet, the song plays in the background. Since her character is named Raina, we loved the idea of having the song,” said Sohail.

A co-production of Sohail Khan Productions and Ronnie Screwvala, “Main Aurr Mrs. Khanna” is being distributed by UTV Motion Pictures. Made at a budget of about Rs.40 crore (Rs.400 million), it is releasing with around 1,200 prints worldwide.

All The Best – Preview

New Delhi, Rohit Shetty has made his mark as a director of comedies with hits like “Golmaal” and “Golmaal Returns” and he promises to continue the tradition with yet another multi-starrer laugh riot in “All The Best – Fun Begins”, which releases Friday.

Produced by Ajay Devgn, it stars Bipasha Basu, Sanjay Dutt, Fardeen Khan, Mugdha Godse and Ajay himself.

“For the first time, I am quite confident about a film that it will work for sure. A few of the ‘Golmaal’ fans felt that ‘Golmaal Returns’ was good but not as good as ‘Golmaal’. So keeping that also in mind, when they see ‘All The Best’, it will be like both ‘Golmaal Returns’ and Golmaal’,” Shetty told IANS.

Said Ajay: ” ‘All The Best’ is a laugh riot. It falls in the same genre as ‘Golmaal’ but is a completely different script made on a larger scale and it’s funnier than ‘Golmaal’…The film will work…I’m sure people will like it too.”

Distributed internationally by Yash Raj Films, “All The Best” is releasing worldwide with around 1,250 prints, while actor-producer Ajay has splurged close to Rs.40 crore (Rs.400 million) on making the comedy.

With a song shot for around Rs.6.5 crore, the movie is a situational comedy based on mistaken identities and goof ups.

In the film, Veer (Fardeen) is a singer who is always greedy of extracting extra pocket money from his London-based businessman step-brother Dharam (Sanjay) with the help of his friend Prem (Ajay), a concept car expert.

Veer is in love with Vidya (Mugdha) and Prem is married to Jhanvi (Bipasha) who takes care of his outdated gymnasium. The two friends land up in debts as they opt for a shortcut to get rich.

They get into a bigger soup when Dharam pays a sudden visit to their place and unavoidable circumstances arise when Jhanvi is mistaken to be Veer’s girlfriend.

The friends start juggling between prolonging the debt payment to a local don and pacifying Dharam — the confusion results in rib-tickling comic situations.

The film is releasing with two other big-budget movies – “Blue” and “Main Aurr Mrs. Khanna”, but Ajay is unperturbed by the business competition.

“All three films are from different genres and for me it was always a Diwali release because it (’All The Best’) is all about families and people wanting to be together and having fun…so this Diwali, ‘All The Best’ is the best bet if everyone wants to laugh,” he said.

A Nobel first: economics prize goes to a woman.

A U.S. academic who proved that communities can trump state control and corporations became the first woman to win the Nobel prize in economics on Monday, sharing it with an expert on how companies make decisions whose work could influence post-crisis regulation.

Elinor Ostrom of Indiana University defied conventional wisdom with studies that showed that user-managed properties -- such as community fish stocks or woodland areas -- more often than not were better run than standard theories predicted.

University of California, Berkeley economist Oliver Williamson, the other winner, looked at how incentives within companies, government and other organizations affect decisions, adding human dimensions such as social norms to a field often thought of in terms of a hypothetical perfect market.

The two will share the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences award of 10 million Swedish crown ($1.4 million) prize.

Before Ostrom, the previously accepted view was that common property was poorly managed and should be either regulated centrally or privatized.

"Since we have found that bureaucrats sometimes do not have the correct information while citizens and users of resources do, we hope it helps encourage a sense of capacity and power," Ostrom told a news conference via telephone.

After a week of Nobel drama that included the gasp-inducing selection of U.S. President Barack Obama for the peace prize, the economics category risked being an anti-climax.

But the choice of a woman for a prize in a field dominated by men added a final twist to this year's awards, showing again the Nobel committees' penchant for springing surprises.

"There are many, many people who have struggled mightily and to be chosen for this prize is a great honor and I'm still a little bit in shock," Ostrom, a professor in political science, told the news conference.

MONGOLIAN GRASSLANDS

Studies of how organizations function may sound dry but the examples that pepper Ostrom's work are anything but. A colorful case in point: grasslands in Mongolia, China and Russia.

When China and Russia imposed agricultural collectives, the grasslands became more heavily degraded than in Mongolia, where nomads moved herds with the seasons. When China later privatized

some grasslands the land became even more degraded.

"Both socialism and privatization are associated with worse long-term outcomes than those observed in traditional group-based governance," the academy noted.

The academy said Ostrom and Williamson helped explain that economic analysis can shed light on most forms of social organization.

"Economic transactions take place not only in markets, but also within firms, associations, households, and agencies," it said, adding that economic theory delved deeply into markets but had not sufficiently explored this huge area of activity.

Ostrom, 76, whose work was partly inspired by Williamson, gathered her most important research in a 1990 book called "Governing the Commons: the Evolution of Institutions for Collective Action."

Williamson did much of his key work in the 1970s. He showed how hierarchical organizations could thrive because they were effective at resolving conflicts and in some ways were more efficient than market-based systems.

But he also argued that problems could emerge when executive authority was abused, making such systems less productive.

UC Berkeley economist George Akerlof, who won the Nobel prize in 2001, said Williamson's work helped people understand daily life in organizations from kindergarten on up and also was seminal for understanding the recent financial crisis and creating new regulation.

"A lot of the problem was in organizations; they were giving people the wrong incentives. If people had thought about those incentives through Olly's eyes, and what was actually being done, we would have known that this crisis was going to occur and why," Akerlof told Reuters.

Williamson, who said the possibility of bagging a Nobel always came to mind at this time of the year, called himself "a lucky guy."

He woke at about 2:30 a.m. and wanted to get back to sleep. An hour later the phone rang and his son answered, telling Williamson, "I think this is the call."

Speaking to Reuters, the 77-year-old economist said organizational theory was becoming more vibrant and offered tools to fight future crises by looking within organizations.

"Are there relationships between the Fed and the banking sector, on which it has such a significant influence, that haven't been thought through as fully as they might in organizational terms?" he asked.

The economics prize, officially called the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel, was established in 1968. It is not part of the original group of awards set out in dynamite tycoon Nobel's 1895 will.

MS releases biggest patch, fixes Windows 7

Microsoft Corp issued its biggest software patch on record on Tuesday to fix a range of security issues in its programs, including the yet to be released Windows 7 operating system.

In a monthly update sent to users of its software, Microsoft released 13 security bulletins, or patches, to address 34 vulnerabilities it identified across its Windows, Internet Explorer, Silverlight, Office and other products.

It said six of the patches were high priority and should be deployed immediately. The patches -- which update software to write over glitches -- are designed to protect users from hackers or malicious software downloaded from the Internet.

Several of the patches affect Windows 7, the software maker's new operating system, which will be officially unveiled next week, but has been widely used in test versions.

Such an early sign of security issues on Windows 7 is potentially worrisome for Microsoft, which is hoping its new operating system will erase bad feelings among many customers who bought the predecessor, Vista.

A Microsoft spokesperson could not immediately say whether the company had identified further security problems with Windows 7. The company generally does not disclose such problems until it has patches available.

The vulnerabilities in Windows 7, including the risk of having a PC taken over by a hacker, were serious flaws, but to be expected, according to Dave Marcus, senior researcher at software security firm McAfee Inc.

"As long as human beings are writing code there are always going to be vulnerabilities," he said.

Tuesday's update included the largest number of patches to be issued on a single day by Microsoft.

Corporate users will need to test the patches before they deploy them to make sure they do not cause machines to crash because of compatibility issues with existing software.

After Brazil, Spain thinks divorce is a 'good thing'

Washington, Oct 14 (ANI): Spain has come out to be the second country in the world where divorce is better accepted socially, preceded only by Brazil.

Around 79 percent of Spanish people think that, when a couple is not able to solve their marital problems, divorce is the best solution.

The data was derived from the study "Social perception of divorce in Spain", published in the Revista Espaqola de Investigaciones Sociolsgicas (Reis) by Professor Diego Becerril Ruiz, of the Department of Sociology of the University of Granada.

It also reflects that the acceptation of divorce has increased in our country during the 90's.

The data collected from a complete bibliographical review, reveals that the young, contrary to what could be expected, are not the sector of the population who is more in favour of divorce as a solution.

"They are the sector which disagrees the most," Becerril said.

"Maybe because these generations have been brought up within situations of divorce and have experienced, to a greater or lesser extent, the breakup process," he stated.

Marital status also defines clear situations as regards the acceptation of divorce.

The divorced and separated agree to a greater extent, whereas the widows and widowers are the sector most in disagreement.

In addition, as regards ideology, those who are closer to positions of extreme left are the group that agrees the most with divorce as a solution for a troubled marriage, whereas people closer to extreme right disagree with such idea.

In his work, Becerril has also analysed the data of the World Values Survey, according to which for Spanish people "divorce is the most justifiable behaviour" among a series of proposed social behaviours such as prostitution, abortion or euthanasia.

With an average of 6.42 out of a possible 10, divorce is the most accepted, followed by homosexuality, with a 6.17.

On the other hand of the scales and against the high acceptation of divorce in Spain, the work of the researcher of the UGR has revealed that Japan is the country (of the 35 countries analysed) where divorce is worst accepted socially with just about 30 percent of those polled in favour, followed by Filipinas and the United States of America. Researchers spell out the 12-steps to white-collar crime

Washington, Oct 14 (ANI): A new study by Canadian researchers has listed twelve steps to white-collar crime.

The report will appear in the International Journal of Business Governance and Ethics.

Ruth McKay of the Sprott School of Business, at Carleton University, Carey Stevens of Carey Stevens and Associates, in Ottawa, and Jae Fratzl of Artworks Counselling and Psychotherapy, in Ontario, Canada, examined leader behaviour and the development of organizational culture to find how people get caught in the web of white-collar criminality.

McKay clarifies: "Illegal activities at a corporation may appear to be the act of one person, such as with the collapse of the 233-year-old Barings Bank."

Barings Bank had collapsed in 1995 due to unauthorised trading by Nick Leeson, however, the Bank executives had known that Leeson had a conflict of interest because he was both trading and settling deals.he researchers have divided the progress of white-collar crime into 12 steps.

Steps one to four explain how the "players" meet and draw each other's support while waiting for opportunity for illegal activity.

The first four steps are: The architect of the white-collar crime makes an entry into a corporation and is given an authoritative position.

In the second step, personality and circumstances affect the "player" in a way that they realize their authority.

The third step is the time when "drivers" emerge and either ignore or condone certain actions that have been taken.

Participants who have been inactive so far now recognize a prospect in the fourth step.

In step 5, the "leader" draws some unwilling participants into the "crime".

In step 6, distrust develops between other people involved.

In step 7, the perpetrator sees the co-conspirator in a weak position and begins to take advantage of the position.

In step 8 bullying and pressurising becomes rampant as illegal goals are aimed for.

In step 9, the perpetrator takes bigger risks looking forward to gain more.

In step 10, the values of the participants and their actions come into obvious conflict.

In step 11, a whistleblower steps up and marks the leader's fall.

Finally, in step 12, the leader is blamed for the crime, following which he either accepts the crime and seeks forgiveness by disclosing everything or denies everything. (ANI)

MJ's kids in Jackson family row over reality show

New York, October 14: Michael Jackson's three children have been caught up in a Jackson family dispute over their inclusion in a forthcoming reality show.

Members of the star family were reportedly arguing whether Prince, 12, Paris, 11 and Prince Michael II, 7, should feature in the "The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty", which may air in December.

A report in Us magazine claimed while Janet Jackson was fine with the kids being on the programme, the late singer's oldest sibling, Rebbie, "feels Michael would spin in his grave if he knew his kids would be on the show," reports the New York Post.

The King of Pop was extremely careful of keeping his kids' identity secret.

During the rare times when they stepped out in public, the late star used to make the children wear masks.

He died aged 50 after suffering a cardiac arrest at his LA home in June this year.
